Highway The province of Burdur is located at the western Mediterranean Region and is connected to the Aegean Region over the Afyon province and to the Central Anatolian Region over the Isparta province.

Where to Visit
ANCIENT CITIES
Sagalassos The ancient city of Sagalassos is 30 km. away from Burdur province and 7 km away from Ağlasun district. The ruins of this ancient city are still standing and a Belgian team executes the archeological excavations. This ancient city had lived its brightest period in AD 2nd century.
Cremna The ancient city of Cremna is located inside the borders of Çamlık Village which is 25 km east of Bucak District, located 45 km away from Burdur Province. The ancient city of Cremna had lived its brightest and most advanced period in AD 2nd century and is a Psidia city. The creations of Roman Age are still standing. The Acropolis (upper city) contains the structures of forum (public square), basilica (courthouse), church, Elsodra (arched structure) and library building. From the excavations inside this building, 9 marble statues of gods have been discovered. These findings are exhibited inside the Burdur Museum.
Cibyra The ancient city of Cibyra is the capital city of Tedropolis which was composed of the combination of the ancient city with three other ancient cities, Oineanda Balbura, Bubon (İbecik) ancient cities which was founded on the three hills located 108 km. distance from the city center, to the west of the Gölhisar district. The major structures that could withstand the corrosion of time in the ancient city of Cibyra are stadium, upper and lower agora, town hall, theatre, burial grounds and monumental aqueduct.
Hacılar Tumulus The tumulus is located inside the borders of Hacılar village, which is 24 km. away from the Burdur Province. The remnants of the ancestors of the mankind who had preferred settled life to nomadic lifestyle and constructed the garden walls for their houses, produced potteries for preservation of food and drinks are important for the Archeology of the entire world. Mainly, the remains of three ages had been discovered at the excavations. The findings are exhibited at the Burdur Museum.
Kuruçay Tumulus This prehistoric tumulus is located inside the borders of Kuruçay village, which is located 15 km. away from Burdur.
HISTORICAL STRUCTURES
Ulu Mosque The mosque is located over a hill inside the Pazar quarter of the city. It was constructed by Felekküddin Dündar Bey in 1294.
İncirhan The inn is located inside the borders of İncirdere Village, which is located 7 km west of Bucak district. The inn was constructed by the Anatolian Seljukian monarch Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev bin Keykubad in 13th century. The most distinguishing property of the inn is the huge and plain entrance door with inscription. Susuz Caravansary: The caravansary is located inside the borders of Susuz village of Bucak district. It is one of the caravansaries constructed in the period of Anatolian Seljukian state in 13th century. The caravansary is located on the historical Silk Road. The construction plan of the caravansary is a rectangle close to the square and its most distinguishing property is the western entrance gate.
HISTORICAL MANSIONS
The mansions of Taşoda, Çelikbaş, Baki Bey and Mısırlı, which represent the civil Ottoman architecture, are worth seeing.
NATIONAL AND NATURAL PARKS
Sütçüler Sığla Forest
Burdur - Sütçüler Sigla Ormani Nature Reserve
Location: The forest is in the Kizilli district of Bucak, in the province of Burdur, which is 50km west of Isparta.
Transportation: The area is 59km from Sutculer. Both Isparta and Burdur are well connected to other regions of the country by bus.
Highlights: The most prized species in the forest is the Sigla tree, and the area is under protection in order to preserve it for scientific research and educational projects. In addition to this rare species, there are also cluster pine, oak, alder and plane trees. Animals inhabiting the area include squirrels, reptiles and crabs.
CAVES
The İnsuyu cave located inside the city borders is an important tourism merit.
CAVES OF BURDUR
İnsuyu Cave
Location: Burdur
The cave is located at the 13th kilometer of Burdur-Antalya highway , 900 meters east of the road in Mandıra village. .
Properties: The total length of the cave is 597 meters and is a horizontal and dry cave. The cave is one of the first caves arranged for tourism as it has appropriate connections to nearby cities.
From the formation of stalactite and stalagmites from limestone sedimentation in various shapes and structures, it is assumed that the cave was formed thousands of years ago. There are 9 lakes of various sizes inside various galleries leading to different directions.
There is a cool and clean air circulation inside the cave. It is believed that some of the cave waters are curable to diabetics and some stomach diseases. There is an accommodation facility nearby the cave established by City Private Administration.
LAKES
Burdur Lake The lake is 4 km. away from the city center. The Burdur Lake displays the characteristics of a tectonic lake. The lake hosts 70 % of the "dikkuyruk (erect-tail)" ducks, which is an endangered species. The Burdur lake is the shelter area of Endemic bird species and is an internationally important marshy area. The lake hosts 85 bird species.
Salda Lake The lake is the most clean and deepest lake of Turkey. With the purity and the clearness of its waters, it is the most beautiful promenade place of Burdur Province.
Karacaören Dam Lake The dam was founded on the Aksu creek and is 35 km away from Bucak district. Beside the coverage of the energy and irrigation requirements of the region, it is one of the beautiful promenade places with its natural beauties.

Bird Species: It is important for water birds, which are numerously present during winter. It is the most important wintering area for world wide generation under danger, dikkuyruk (more than two of three of world winter population, max. 10.927). This specie can be seen with huge numbers within Burdur Lake, during months other than reproduction. Maximum total water bird number registered during winter is 202.119, and kara boyunlu batağan (max. 25.280), angıt (in July max. 1889, during winter max. 472), Macar ördeği (maks 2814), elmabaş patka (max. 57.555), tepeli patka (max. 6000) and sakarmeke (max. 138.925) are the leaders among countered important species. Mahmuzlu kızkuşu broods around lake.

Geography
As Burdur Province is located at the central parts of the Mediterranean region which s called the Region of the Lakes, the dominant climate is the Mediterranean climate with the effect of the present lakes.
History
The various historic resources and archeological findings indicate that the first settlement of mankind in the Burdur region which was called as Pisidia in the ancient ages extends to the Paleolithic Age. According to the rock paintings discovered at the Başkuyu village of Yeşilova district, the presence of mankind in the Paleolithic Age was definitely determined.
At the excavations executed in the Hacılar Village, the layers between IX-VI (BC 5400) are determined. This age is named "Non - Ceramic Neolithic" which is dated to BC 7th thousand is the age in which the mankind domesticated the animals, founded villages and learned to produce pottery and passed to productivity from collectivity and therefore bounded to a specific land. The discovered mother goddess figurines and human face depicted potteries hold an important place among the archeology of the world. The region had entered under the dominance of Frigian, Roman, Bergama Kingdom and Byzantine civilizations. In the later periods, the reign of Seljukians, Hamitoğulları and Ottomans are known.

Among the local authentic food varieties, you should taste the "walnut paste" (a desert produced from walnut) produced at the Yukarı Pazar quarter of Burdur Province and "Burdur shish kebab". It is possible to rest at the trout breeding facilities among the road to ancient city of Sagalassos and taste the local yogurt and trout.
