The province of Yozgat provides a transition point between Central Anatolian Region and the Black Sea Region. The province of Yozgat is one of the oldest settlement areas of Anatolia and accommodates rich products of Anatolian Folk Literature.
 
Districts: Yozgat (center), Akdağmadeni, Aydıncık, Boğazlıyan, Çandır, Çayıralan, Çekerek, Kadışehri, Saraykent, Sarıkaya, Sorgun, Şefaatli, Yenifakılı, Yerköy.

Railway: The railway between Ankara - Kayseri provinces passes from Yerköy - Şefaatli and Yenifakılı districts inside the borders of the province. The railway stations are located inside the district center.

 Where to Visit
 
TOWER
 
Watch Tower: The tower was constructed by Şakir Usta in 1908. The tower has the shape of a square prism and is constructed at the central point of the province.
 
MUSEUMS AND ANCIENT CITIES
 
Karslıoğlu Mansion: (Archeological Museum) The mansion was constructed in 1883. The mansion was then nationalized by Ministry of Culture in 1979. The mansion was restored and open for visit as an Archeological museum. The findings discovered from the excavations executed in the region are exhibited in the museum.
 
Ethnography Museum: (Nizamoğlu House) This mansion is used as a Ethnography Museum and has entered into service as a museum in 1985. There are approximately 4000 works in the museum and 990 of these works are on exhibition.

Ancient Cities
 
Büyüknefes (Tavium): The ancient city was founded by the Trocmi nation which was a branch of Galat nation. The Büyüknefes ancient city was the capital city of this civilization and is located on the Yozgat - Haydarbeyli road. The city contains pillars, lion statues, ring stones carved from hard rocks, bird figures carved on the rocks, ruins of a paved road, burial grounds and pools. There are also the traces of a wide square and roads displaying the existence of an underground city in the vicinity of southeast direction.
 
Çengeltepe Tumulus: The tumulus belongs to the Frigian period. The most important architectural finding is the remnants of a house. A earthen made Owen, a furnace, various tools and earthenware pots are discovered in this house.
 
Mercimek Hill: It is a small tumulus located east of Yozgat province. Historical works like household items, potteries, women's adornment materials, seals and a cubical tomb belonging to the Hittite period were discovered at the excavations.
 
Alişar Tumulus: The tumulus is located 45 km. southeast of Yozgat province on the highway of Sarıkaya district. The tumulus is 520 m. long and 950 m. wide and is founded in the middle of a wide and hollow field. The superior craftsmanship and the decoration property of the black, gray and red pots and pans, decorated seals, well crafted stones and bones, human and animal figures are the samples of the civilization of the Alişar nation.
 
Sarıkaya Roman Ruins: The Roman period archways are located inside the borders of Sarıkaya district of Yozgat province at the thermal facilities.
 
CASTLES
 
Çeşka Castle (Underground City): The underground city is founded inside a high hill located northeast of the city and is 3 km. away from the city center. The underground city has three separate entrances.
 
Kerkenez Ruins (Castle): The Kerkenez Ruins ore located 5 km away from the Şahmuratlı village and are spread over a vast field.
 
RELIGIOUS MONUMENTS
 
The major mosques of the Yozgat province are; Çapanoğlu Mosque, Başçavuş Mosque and the Cevheri Ali Efendi Mosque.
 
The mausoleums located inside and around Yozgat province are Çandır Şahsultan Hatun Mausoleum (Vault),Çayıralan Çerkezbey Mausoleum ,Osman Paşa Mausoleum and Görpeli Mausoleum.
 
BRIDGES
 
The historical bridges of Yozgat province are; Taşköprü, Karabıyık Bridge and Kesik Bridge.
 
HIGHLANDS
 
Hisarbeyli (Yoğurtyurdu) Plateau: The plateau is located inside the Akdağ forests. The Hasbek - Hisarbeyli - Akdağmadeni road passes through this plateau. A big creek flows between two hills. One side of the hill is covered with pine trees while the other side is covered with small plantation. The plateau is inhabited by the Hasbek and Hisarbeyli villagers during hot summer seasons. There are numerous cold fresh water springs. The plateau is famous with its yogurt.
 
Cehirlik: The plateau is located on the Yozgat - Boğazkale (Hattuşaş) road. It is located 2 km. away from Yozgat province. The plateau is famous with its Bride Rock and Wild Tulips. The tulips bloom in spring season and provides a different beautiful perspective to the Cehrilik plateau during summer season.
 
Kadıpınarı: This plateau is located inside the Akdağ forests. The Plateau covers a wide area with pines, oaks and other various tree types. The area contains clean fresh water springs and various hunting games. The plateau is located 2 km. northwest of Akdağmadeni district. There is a deer rising ranch in the region.
 
PRESERVED AREAS
 
Çamlık National Park
 
Yozgat Pine Grove National Park
 
Location: The park is 5km south of Yozgat, in Central Anatolia.
 
Transport: Getting to the park by road is via the Ankara–Kayseri highway.
 
Highlights: The park covers an area of 262 hectares and has an average altitude of 1350m, and is a rarity in Turkey in that it was mad-made. It has a good coverage of black pine, oak and juniper trees. Bogazkoy, the capital city of the Hittites, lies 40km north of the park, and within the area are Alacahoyuk and Sarikaya thermal springs.
 
Facilities: There is no accommodation, but camping and picnic sites are available.
 
CAVES
 
There are some number of caves in the Divanlı village of Saraylı district. These caves are composed of various chambers. As the caves are carved inside the rocks, some caves have stone carved stairs. These caves are known to be of Byzantine period.
 
THERMAL RESORTS
 
The province of Yozgat has a rich variety of thermal spring areas. The major thermal springs of the province are Boğazlıyan District (Cavlak) Thermal Spring, Sarıkaya District Sarıkaya , Saraykent district Saraykent Thermal Spring, Sorgun district Sorgun Thermal Spring and Yerköy district Yerköy (Uyuz Bath) Thermal Spring.
 
Sarıkaya Thermal Spring
 
Location: Just outside Sarikaya, around 80km south-east of Yozgat in Central Anatolia.
 
Water temperature: 44°C - 47°C
 
pH value: 6.4 - 6.8
 
Physical and chemical properties: Radioactive waters with chlorine, bicarbonate, sodium, iron and calcium.
 
Helps to heal: Rheumatism, mental and muscular fatigue, skin conditions, gynaecological problems, nervous disorders, respiratory conditions, joint pain and calcium deposits as well as patients recovering from surgery.
 
Accommodation: 1-star hotel - 164 beds, 2-star hotel - 1960 beds.
 
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
 
Trekking: The Aydıncık district Kazankaya Valley is a suitable location for rafting and trekking purposes. Also the Yahyasaray Dam Lake and the Gelingüllü Dam Lake are available places for water sports and line fishing purposes.
 
Hunting: The Çamlık National Park hosts wild boar and partridge, toy bird , quail and fox and these hunting games are available for hunting purposes during the hunting season.
 
 Geography
 
The dominant climate in Yozgat province is the terrestrial climate of the Central Anatolian Region. The temperature differences between the summer and winter seasons and the day and night times are high. This severe climate conditions a little bit soften at the Çekerek Valley which is inside the river basin area of Yeşilırmak river. Partial Black sea Region climate characteristics are encountered at these sections.
 
 History
 
The province of Yozgat is one of the oldest settlement areas of Anatolia. The province of Yozgat had entered under the reign of Hittite, Frigian, Lydian, Roman, Seljukian and Ottoman civilizations.

The Yozgat region has a rich variety of kitchen culture. However the first remembered meal varieties when the name Yozgat is uttered are the Testi (jug) Kebab, Arabaşı and Madımak meal.
